The movie Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, featured a character portraying Lord Krishna, adding a mysterious element to the film as the actor’s identity was kept under wraps. Speculations suggest that Tamil actor Krishnakumar, also known as KK, might have played this role. This isn't the first time Lord Krishna has made a special appearance in films to influence the storyline.

In OMG: Oh My God! (2012), Akshay Kumar portrayed a modern version of Lord Krishna who guides a character through tough situations in a contemporary setting. Similarly, in the Malayalam movie Nandanam (2002), Lord Krishna is depicted as Guruvyurappan, played by actor Aravind Akash, revealing his divine identity towards the end. Nagarjuna's portrayal of Lord Krishna in Krishnarjuna (2008) offered a modern twist on the mythology, presenting Krishna as an urban and stylish figure. Lastly, the comedy film Biriyani (2013) also featured a unique interpretation of Lord Krishna.In a scene from the Tamil movie Biriyani, Karthi's character arranges a date for his friend with a woman. In the Malayalam film Mr. Butler (2000), Dileep plays a charming chef who becomes popular with women. In one song, he dresses up as Lord Krishna to portray his popularity among women. While Lord Krishna is known for having over 16,000 wives, symbolizing love and protection, the movie portrays it as flirtatious.

In the Telugu movie Gopala Gopala (2015), Pawan Kalyan portrays Govinda Gopala Hari as a modern-day Lord Krishna who rides a cruiser, blending divinity with humanity. By disguising himself as a celestial being in contemporary attire and hairstyle, he embodies the timelessness of a deity who communicates wisdom to the masses with a subtle smile and philosophical expressions.

In the Tamil film Goa (2010), even though Premgi Amaren plays a rebellious youth, the fun song "Vaaliba Vaa Vaa" features him dressed as Krishna. This song also sheds light on positive portrayals of homosexual relationships at a time when they were often stereotyped.
